With the political chaos in Germany, coupled with rising concerns in Europe around Trump’s second term, last week, a report compiled by Sauli Niinisto, the former president of Finland, went under the radar.

Written at the behest of Ursula von der Leyen, the EU president, the report lays out a range of steps to prepare the economic and political union for future geopolitical shocks, spurred by shifts like China’s growing global power, the chaos in the Middle East, or new geopolitical curveballs, like Russia (and Belarus) sending illegal migrants into Europe to shake up European societies.
