The world's seventh most traded good (pharmaceuticals) gets geopolitical
One of the most high-profile examples of how the pharmaceutical sector is navigating geopolitics is with AstraZeneca.
The British firm, made famous during Covid-19 for producing billions of low-cost vaccines, unveiled in 2024 that it was building supply chains for different markets. In particular, it was establishing one manufacturing base to supply the US and Europe (West) and, separately, another base to supply China.
It is no coincidence that these governments are also βat warβ to decide the course of the 21st century.
