Sustainability meets geopolitical strategy
Last month, the COP29 Summit, the world’s largest climate gathering, descended into geopolitical chaos.
From the opening speech, in which Azerbaijan’s president Ilham Aliyev accused states like France and the Netherlands of hindering climate progress by controlling overseas territories, to Turkey’s decision to block Israeli president Isaac Herzog's plane from traveling through Turkish airspace to COP29, the event was a sign of how geopolitics has become the biggest obstacle to climate progress.
However, what happened at COP29 was only one part of a much bigger picture. Now, what is beginning across the globe, particularly in Asia, is a sign that geopolitics is about to jolt the “green world” in unprecedented ways.
