During the ups and downs of the US presidential election, Mexico has been one of the most significant topics. Either it is illegal immigration stemming from Mexico or it is importing goods made in Mexico. Like China or Russia, Mexico has been a “constant” in the run-up to November 5th.
But, strangely, Mexico itself has not gotten much attention—beyond the cartel wars and a handful of moves by the previous president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), who among many other bold steps, paused relations with the US and Canadian embassies over what he viewed as interference in judicial reform.
Mexico’s silence does not mean nothing has been occurring. Far from it.
