Biggest jolt to the Middle East since October 7th

Towards the end of November, opposition groups in Syria launched “Deterrence of Aggression,” striking the Assad government in western Aleppo. Over the next ten days, those groups advanced through the country, capturing critical cities en route to the capital. On December 8th, the rebels captured Damascus, causing the Assad government to collapse.

This is the biggest jolt to the Middle East since October 7th and concerns far more than just Syria. Besides the potential end of secular Syria, the reality is that nobody governs Syria anymore.
