Stop Using The Expression "New Cold War." It Is Dangerously Wrong.

The case for ditching the "New Cold War" cliché

What is covered in today’s insight?

  1. What’s At Stake Globally

  2. China’s Global Power

  3. The New Paradigm For US-China

INTRODUCTION

Over the past several years, the expression “New Cold War” has quickly entered the public vocabulary to describe what is taking place between Washington and Beijing.

This is a tremendous, even dangerous mistake.

The fight between the US and China, to spin the world a certain way, is far bigger than what took place between the US and the Soviet Union. The battles being fought and the borders of these battles, go well beyond what took place during the Cold War.

And in many ways, unlike the Cold War, where the world was worried about the start of a hot (nuclear) war, the showdown between the US and China is already “hot.” The more the US-China rivalry is looked at through a Cold War lens, much will be missed as to what is at stake and what is occurring.
