The US-China tech war has gone through several rounds, starting with Trump’s first term when he targeted TikTok and Chinese 5G. Under Biden, the fight reached new heights as Washington targeted the entirety of the Chinese technology world. And, since 2022, as artificial intelligence (AI) entered the mainstream, the US attempted to establish new barriers to restrict Chinese access, pulling AI to the center of the tech fight and displacing all other technologies.
However, what is unfolding now, weeks before President-elect Donald Trump begins his second term, is a new fight entirely, one that makes the previous rounds look insignificant. The new fight that has begun will upend the entire global technology landscape in irreversible ways.
